General Secretary Hu Jintao went to a unit of self-service payment terminal to personally experience the rapidness and convenience brought by self-service payment by swiping UnionPay card
On January 16th, 2010, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, State President and CMC Chairman Hu Jintao made a special trip to visit UnionPay during his inspection tour in Shanghai.
As a modern financial service enterprise headquartered in Shanghai, UnionPay collaborated with the commercial banks to launch UnionPay card, the independent brand of bankcard in China that has become widely known nationwide. President Hu Jintao was so concerned about operation of UnionPay card that arranged a special trip to visit UnionPay. Groups of changing data and undulating curves on large screen in the Master Control Center indicated real-time transactions of UnionPay cards in various regions. General Secretary Hu Jintao was very pleased upon hearing that domestic holdings of UnionPay card had surpassed 2.1 billion pieces and that acceptance was realized in 83 countries and regions overseas. The working staff demonstrated the newly issued migrant worker card, official card, servicemen’s social security card, etc. to President Hu Jintao, who inquired their functions and use respectively. President Hu Jintao also went to a unit of self-service terminal and picked up one piece of UnionPay card to personally experience the rapidness and convenience brought by self-service payment by swiping card. President Hu Jintao praised that UnionPay card independently developed by UnionPay promoted the development of bankcard industry and brought convenience to the mass people in our country. General Secretary Hu Jintao said that bankcard industry was a promising industry and encouraged us to constantly expand our business fields, improve our service level, accelerate our internationalization process, and strive to establish “UnionPay” as one major bankcard brand worldwide.
