UnionPay International and the international cruise brand Royal Caribbean Cruises announce on May 13 that all cruises of Royal Caribbean Cruises have launched the payment service by binding UnionPay credit cards (card number starting with 62) with cruise cards, making it the first international cruise brand to provide such a service, which not only saves the inconvenience of carrying a big amount of cash but also provides a convenient and safe payment choice for offshore journey.
Credit card binding payment is a major mode of payment for cruise services. Cardholders bind their UnionPay credit card with the cruise card upon boarding the cruise and easily pay for all transactions on the cruise with a cruise card only. Before, UnionPay debit and credit cards have been accepted by all ATMs on Royal Caribbean Cruises for withdrawing US dollars.
The 45-year-old Royal Caribbean Cruises entered the Chinese market in 2008 and developed a good number of routes running between China and overseas renowned tourist destinations. Since 2012, Royal Caribbean Cruises has witnessed ever-deepening cooperation with UnionPay International, from the cooperation with ships departing from China at early stage to all ships operated by the company.
At present, the two luxury cruise ships owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises – “Voyager of the Seas” and “Mariner of the Seas” are distributed at home ports running routes departing from Shanghai, Tianjin and Hong Kong, covering all tourist demands in the east, north and south of China. In addition to cash withdrawal service, UnionPay debit card payment service will also be launched on these two ships recently where the 1%-2% currency conversion fee will be exempted exclusively for UnionPay cards.
