April 22 – UnionPay International and China International Travel Service Limited, Head Office (hereinafter referred to as “CITS”) jointly sign the 2014 Overall Business Cooperation Agreement in Beijing, agreeing to further enhance the UnionPay card payment experience of the outbound travelers by sharing resources and complementing each other’s advantages. At the same time, the two sides also announce the launch of overseas card-using reward activities to add surprises to the cardholders’ overseas travels.
Over the past year, UnionPay International and CITS have carried out cooperation on tourism products development, tourism payment environment optimization and many other aspects. The Overall Business Cooperation Agreement signed this time is aimed at further integrating the resources of the two sides in relation to travel and services, making use of the advantages of UnionPay overseas and domestic acceptance network, deepening the UnionPay card service content, and providing the cardholders with more convenient payment experience and more considerate services while they are travelling abroad.
In accordance with the overseas card-using reward plan jointly launched by the two sides, cardholders who purchase the outbound travel products of CITS with UnionPay card (with a card number starting with 62) and purchase with UnionPay card at the designated destinations overseas during the activity can not only be exempted from the currency conversion fee equal to 1% to 2% of the transaction amount but also enjoy a reward valued up to 6% of the transaction amount.
Over the recent years, the world has witnessed the constant improvement of the UnionPay card international acceptance network and service system. Currently, UnionPay cards have become accepted by over 12 million merchants and over 1.1 million ATMs in more than 140 countries and regions overseas for purchases and cash withdrawal. Among major overseas tourist destinations, the overall acceptance of UnionPay cards has been realized in Hong Kong and Macau; UnionPay credit cards can also be used in nearly all the signature-based merchants in South Korea; all ATMs in the US and Britain accept UnionPay card for cash withdrawal, which has brought much convenience to cardholders for their daily payment and international travels and spending.
