Situated in the Cook Islands in the Central and South Pacific, Niue is an oval island surrounded by coral reefs. Covering an area of 260 km2, it is populated with 2,145 people who are Polynesian and speak Niuean and English, most of which worship the Ekalesia Nieue. Alofi is the capital of Niue with over 800 people. Niue is a free association with New Zealand who appoints senior commissioner to Niue. It is also a formal member of the Pacific Islands Forum. On December 12, 2007, Niue started its diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.

Tourism is one of the three main sources of income (the other two are fishery and agriculture) in Niue’s economy. As for agriculture, this country produces passion-fruits, coconuts, lemons and bananas, etc., with small fruit processing factories. Another important source of its income is selling stamps. Currently, the local sole airlines Air New Zealand offers a round-trip flight once a week between Niue and Auckland.
