Application Range
Merchants with UnionPay labels all accept UnionPay cards. Some merchants may not have put up the UnionPay label, so cardholders can inquire the cashier whether UnionPay cards are accepted.
Merchant Characteristics
UnionPay’s promissory merchants in Vietnam are mainly famous local Hotel, restaurants, airport duty-free shops, Airlines Company, PARKSON chain department stores, Diamond Plaza and souvenir stores in Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Da Nang, Hue, Ha Long and Hai Duong.
Accepted Cards
VIETCOMBANK, SACOMBANK and UOB are three major POS acquiring banks in Vietnam. All UnionPay cards excluding VISA and AMEX dual brand cards are accepted by VIETCOMBANK. UOB can accept all UnionPay cards including all dual brand UnionPay cards. SACOMBANK only can accept UnionPay Single Logo cards.
Reminder: Ask the cashier to press “ALPHA” button on the POS first to choose routing through UnionPay network. Especially when using dual brand cards, cardholders are recommended to ask the cashier to choose UnionPay network, so as to assure the enjoyment of various favorable treatments and services provided by UnionPay network. As certain amounts of limits exist for credit card consumption, UnionPay debit cards are more suitable for large consumption on luxuries, as they are subjected only to the limit of balance account of the cards.
Relevant Charges
No commission charge for overseas card-using.
When consuming through UnionPay network, the currency exchange charge of 1%-2% will be exempted. UnionPay will change the amount in local currency into RMB amount to deduct from the holder’s RMB account.
ATM CASH WITHDRAWAL
Application Range
Around 10,000 ATMs in Vietnam accept the withdrawal of cash in local currency (Vietnamese Dong) by UnionPay cards and provide balance inquiry service. These ATMs are mainly located in major cities like Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Hai Phang, Halong Bay, Danang, Hue, Hoi An, Nhatrang, Vungtau and Cantho.
And all the ATMs in Vietnam territory belongs to Agribank, BIDV, Vietcombank, Sacombank, ACB, Vietinbank, DongA bank, Saigonbank, CITI bank, HSBC, ABBANK, SeABANK,OCEANBANK, VRB, PGBANK, WESTERNBANK, HABUBANK, NAMABANK, SCB, SHB, VIETABANK, BAOVIETBANK, IVB can accept UnionPay cards.
UnionPay cards cannot perform over-counter transfer and cash withdrawal abroad.
Accepted Cards
Single Brand UnionPay cards are preferred. Some UnionPay acquiring banks in Vietnam haven’t acquired VISA or MASTER cards at the moment, dual brand UnionPay cards transactions are supported to route to UnionPay network. For example, BIDV and Dongabank haven’t acquired Master cards yet at the time but acquired VISA already, UnionPay/Master Dual brand cards will be routed to UnionPay and UnionPay/VISA dual brand cards will not be routed to UnionPay.
Reminder: Cardholders are recommended to use UnionPay debit cards abroad since overdraft interest will be charged when drawing cash with credit cards. All ATMs in Vietnam do not provide route selection function, suggested cardholders use UnionPay single label card for cash withdrawal.

Chinese Interface
All ATMs except ATMs of VIETINBANK, ACB, PGBANK, HABUBANK, ABBANK, SHB, IVB, VIETABANK and BAOVIETBANK have Chinese interfaces and some have Chinese voice prompts.

Charge and Limit on Withdrawal
Daily cash withdrawal from a debit card should not surpass the Vietnamese Dong equivalent of 10 thousand RMB.Daily cash withdrawal from a credit card should not surpass the Vietnamese Dong equivalent of 5 thousand RMB.
Issuing banks charge a certain amount of commissions for overseas cash withdrawal. Limits on daily withdrawal times and amount as well as commission charges can be obtained from card issuing banks. There is no surcharge per withdrawal by acquiring banks except VIETCOMBANK, SACOMBANK and HSBC.
When drawing cash through UnionPay network, the currency exchange charge of 1%-2% will be exempted. UnionPay will change the amount in local currency into RMB amount to deduct from the holder’s RMB account.
