Located in Western Asia and the southeast of Transcaucasia, the Republic of Azerbaijan is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Iran to the south, Russia to the north and Georgia and Armenia to the west. Baku is an ancient city with a long history, which boosts many a places of interests, such as the Synyk-Kala Minaret and Mosque (11th century), Maiden’s Tower (Giz Qalasi) built in the 12th century, Divankhana stone pavilion (13th century), Shirvan Shahs (15th century) and the well preserved 17th-century palace of the khans.
