Located in West Asia, Jordan is a part of the Arab Plateau and is basically an inland country. Gulf of Aqaba is its only marine outfall. The ancient Roman Empire, Arabian Empire, Crusade and Turkey have all left their footprints in this desert-ridden country. The beautiful mountainous sceneries in its capital, Amman, the mysterious treasure hole in Petra, magnificent ancient Roman theatre and heavily-guarded ancient castle all have their own flavors. But the best-renowned tourist destination is the Dead Sea, which is an inland salt lake. It is 392 meters below sea level, the lowest point on the earth’s surface. Due to its high salt concentration, people will not sink when reading or sleeping in the sea.
