Bangladesh lies on the delta formed by the Ganges River in the northeast of South Asia subcontinent and the lower reaches of Brahmaputra Rivers. It is bordered by Myanmar to the southeast, India to the north, east and west, and by the Bay of Bengal to the south. The country is characterized by fertile and flat alluvial plains which are dissected by numerous connecting rivers as well as streams, so it is suitable for agriculture and fishing. However, it is vulnerable to flood in rainy seasons. The delta of the Ganges River and Brahmaputra Rivers covers more than 80% areas. The rivers are interconnecting and the watercourses are developed. The rivers and lakes account for 10% of the country area. The coastal areas mostly are isles and shoals. The southeast lies on Chittagong Hill with elevation ranging from 300-600 m. Saka Haphlong, 1,229 m high, is the highest mountain of Bangladesh. There is a tropical monsoon climate in the most areas and a tropical steppe climate of monsoon type in coastal areas. The monthly average highest temperature is 40.5℃. The rainfall increases from south to east. The annual rainfall is 1,300-2,500 mm. The rainy season is from June to October, when the rainfall accounts for 80% of the annual total rainfall. Cyclonic storm occurs quite often. Mineral resources include natural gas, coal, titanium, zirconium, to name just a few.
