Known as the "Rainbow Country," South Africa boasts fascinating natural beauty and a great diversity of plants and animals. An authoritative survey shows that, the number of species on such a land with a limited area of only 1.22 million square kilometers is ranked second in the world.
With a variety of landscapes, diverse cultures, and a vast territory, South Africa is the ideal place for vacation. It has a wide range of climates and terrains on its 1,221.037 thousand square kilometers of land. The temperature is moderate in most areas and it’s not so warm in summer; in winter, except for inland and mountainous areas, there is no snow; in autumn, red leaves cover all over the mountains; while it turns into a sea of flowers in spring. Sunflowers and corn field stretches endlessly; fruits are bountiful in apple orchards and vineyards, coastlines zigzag gorgeously; folk customs invite every guest; the mountains, the forests, the lakes and the sea are so splendid and inviting...
Currency: South Africa's monetary unit is the Rand, and its international symbol is ZAR (bills come in 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 rands; coins come in 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents). 1 rand = 100 cents.
Time Difference: South Africa is six hours behind Beijing time.
Capital: South Africa is the only country that has three capitals. The administrative capital, Pretoria, houses the central government of South Africa; the legislative capital, Cape Town, houses the South African Parliament, which, located in southwest South Africa, is the country's second largest city and a major international navigation hub; the judicial capital, Bloemfontein, is where the national judicial body is based.

Using the Card in POS Terminals
Application Range
At present, CUP has cooperated with the FNB
and SBSA
Bank in South Africa to open the merchant acceptance service of CUP cards. Merchants with the CUP logo all accept CUP cards. Some merchants may not have put up the CUP logo, but cardholders can inquire of the cashier whether or not the shop is a FNB or SBSA merchant and if CUP cards are accepted.
Merchant Characteristics
At present, special merchants of CUP in South Africa are mainly featured shops popular among the tourists, such as the world-famous diamond stores, and African Handicraft chain stores Indaba and Out of Africa.
Accepted Cards and Relevant Procedure
Bankcards with the CUP logo only, including CUP debit cards and UnionPay Card.
As certain limits exist for credit card consumption, it is recommended to use CUP debit cards for large diamond related transactions , as they are subject only to the limit of the balance of the card (except that a limit of the debit card is set by the individual).
Relevant Charges
No fee charged while swiping the card in POS terminals.
Compared to other bankcard networks, the 1%-2% currency conversion fee is exempted when withdrawing cash via the CUP network. CUP will convert the amount of local currency withdrawn into that of RMB based on the market exchange rate, and the issuer will deduct that amount from the cardholder’s RMB account in time. There is no need to exchange foreign currency and it is convenient and economical.
Please keep valid transaction invoices as value-added tax is levied on most of the merchandises, part of which can be returned upon valid invoices at the airport (consumed merchandises cannot have the tax refunded). Tax is refunded at the International Departure at the airport with about 12% of the tax returned after the commission fee subtracted.
