Located in the westernmost of protruding part in West Africa, Senegal has an area of 196,700 km2 and a population of 11.90 million. Connected to Mauritania in the north, adjacent to Mali in the east, connected to Guinea and Guinea Bissau in the south and close to the Atlantic Ocean in the west, Senegal has a coastline of around 500 km. The country belongs to savanna climate with an annual average temperature of 29℃ and the highest temperature up to 45℃. The dry season lasts from November to June in the following year while the rainy season lasts from July to October.

French is the official language, with Wolof language in common use among 80% people across the country. 90% of the population believes in Islam. Dakar is capital of the country. Dominated by agriculture, fishery, peanut, phosphate export and tourism are four major traditional foreign currency earning industries in Senegal. Dakar Port is the second largest port in West Africa.

Senegal has three world heritage sites, among which Goree Island belongs to the world cultural heritage, while Niokolo-Koba National Park and Djoudj Bird National Park belong to the world natural heritage. Tourist destinations of Senegal are mainly concentrated in Dakar, Thies, Ziguinchor and Saint-Louis areas.
