Located on the southern margin of Sahara in West Africa, Mali has an area of around 1.24 million km2. Adjacent to Mauritania and Senegal in the west, neighboring Algeria and Niger in the north and east, connected to Guinea, Cote d’ivoire and Burkina Faso in the south, Mali is one inland country. Northern part of the country belongs to tropical desert climate, dry and hot. The central and southern part of the country belongs to savanna climate. It is divided into two seasons throughout the year: rainy season from June to October and dry season from November to May in the following year. Maximum temperature in the dry season is up to 50℃, while minimum temperature in the rainy season is 14℃.

Mali has a population of 12.77 million, while 80% of the population believes in Islam. French is the official language, with Bambara language in common use. Bamako is capital of the country, used to be the central area of Ghana Empire, Mali Empire and Songhai Empire in history.

The economy is dominated by agriculture and animal husbandry. The country has abundant tourism resources but inconvenient traffic. The capital of Bamako, the ancient city of Timbuktu and the water city of Mopti are its major tourist cities.
