Application Range
At present, ATMs of the NBS Bank in Malawi accept cash withdrawal in local currency (Kwacha) and balance inquiry with UnionPay cards. Over-the-counter transfer or cash withdrawal is unavailable for UnionPay cards used abroad.

Reminder: Cardholders are recommended to use the UnionPay debit card for cash withdrawal while abroad since overdraft interest will occur when using a credit card.
How to Identify ATMs that Can Accept UnionPay Cards?
All ATMs with UnionPay logo or NBS Bank logo can accept UnionPay cards.

Chinese-English Interface
Chinese interface is unavailable at present on ATMs of NBS Bank, while English can be selected as the prompt language.
Cash Withdrawal Procedures
After inserting the card into the ATM, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to input the correct password (Chinese passwords are mostly six-digit numbers); after inputting the correct password, the screen will prompt to select card type -Current, Savings or Credit Card. The screen will display the cash withdrawal amount after you have selected any card type; after you have confirmed the amount, the machine will pop out the card and then dispense cash and automatically print a transaction slip.
Charges and Cash Withdrawal Limits
For ATM cash withdrawals with UnionPay cards while abroad, follow the stipulations set by relevant state authorities: The daily accumulative withdrawal amount of foreign currency per UnionPay debit card shall not exceed the equivalent of RMB 10,000. Please consult the issuing bank for the daily cash withdrawal limits of the UnionPay credit card.
Certain amount of commission fee will be charged by the issuing bank for cash withdrawal while abroad. Please consult the issuing bank for more details on specific rates, the times of cash withdrawal each day with a single card, withdrawal limit per time, accumulative cash withdrawal limit, etc.
Compared to other bankcard networks, the 1%-2% currency conversion fee is exempted when withdrawing cash via the UnionPay network. UnionPay will convert the amount of local currency withdrawn into that of RMB, and the bank will deduct that amount from the cardholder’s RMB account accordingly.
