Originally known as “Ivory Coast”, Cote d‘ivoire is a tropical climate country in West Africa with an area of more than 320,000 km2. Bordering on Liberia and Guinea in the west, adjacent to Mali and Burkina Faso in the west, connected to Ghana in the east and close to the Gulf of Guinea in the south, Cote d‘ivoire has a coastline of around 550 km.

French is the official language, with Dyula in common use across most regions. 40% of the population believes in Islam, and 27.5% believes in Catholic. The economy is dominated by agriculture, with cocoa and coffee as two major economic crops, among which the production and export of cocoa ranks first in the world.

Political capital of the country is Yamoussoukro, while economic capital is Abidjan, the latter of which is also the largest natural harbor in West Africa and the largest container port in Africa. Major attractions are Comoé National Park, Tai National Park, Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve and Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro, the first two of which have been included in the “World Natural Heritage List” of UNESCO. Adjacent to the Gulf of Guinea and surrounding the lagoon, Abidjan enjoys beautiful scenery.
